Chapel of the Flowers is an amazing place. For nearly 60 years, we have had the luxury to be a part of people’s most special of days. Whether they plan in advance or just show up, we do our best to give them the most wonderful memory. I know we do this daily here, but lately we’ve had more and more folks show up at the chapel to reminisce on the day they were once married here. I have had the pleasure of getting to meet those folks when they have visited the chapel on their trip to town.
Several years ago, David Nolan met Kerry at a charity event that she was working at. The two proceeded to fall in love and 10 years ago, they married at the Chapel of the Flowers. They had 35 guests come to Las Vegas to attend their wedding. David did not want to see Kerry before she walked down the aisle, so he wore a blindfold the entire time they were arriving and meeting with the minister. The next 10 years went on to produce two children of theirs along with more of life’s celebrations.
It was love at first sight, when John and Kim first met. It was just an ordinary day and John had a long day at work, so he decided to go to the local bar to get some dinner and a few drinks. He had no intentions on meeting any new people or staying out for too long. However, he saw his friend there, so he went up to her and started talking; it was then that he realized she was there with one of her girlfriends, who happened to be Kim.
On Saturday, September 17, 2011, Doyalene and Gary Layton celebrated 50 years of marriage together and had the most romantic, touching and heartfelt Vow Renewal ceremony I have ever seen. I did not have the privilege of coordinating their wedding, but word spread throughout the Chapel of how amazing their ceremony was, so I decided to watch their ceremony when I was home later that night. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can view it here.
Susan and Richard Blades, along with Karen and Steven Wadrop, all got married here at Chapel of the Flowers. In fact, they had a double wedding! Richard and Karen are brother and sister, so they decided to just have their ceremonies together, in Las Vegas.
Dawn met Lee when she was only 14 years old at a disco. She must have known that it was true love from the very beginning as they now have been together for 28 years! The couple visited Las Vegas four years ago and decided that if they ever came back, that they would get married here.
The other week I had the pleasure of meeting one Mrs. Tanya Coomer (past bride) who stopped by the chapel while in Vegas for a girl’s trip (her first ever, with the intent of checking out Garth Brooks!). Tanya, all decked out in her Beatles ‘Love’ regalia, got married at Chapel of the Flowers nearly 11 years ago! She made sure to point out that she was still happily married to her husband, Matt.
Ricky and Lauren have been together for six years when they tied the knot on Wednesday in our LaCapella Chapel with 24 guests in attendance. They began planning their wedding with us in mid-August of 2010. More than 20 of their closest friends and family traveled to Las Vegas all the way from the United Kingdom to join them. Ricky and Lauren were both very nervous, as well as all of Lauren’s bridal party, as they lined up to walk down the aisle, but it was sweet bliss for the newly-wed couple after the ceremony was over.
Ryan and Lindsey were married in the La Capella chapel on 9-10-11. In attendance were about 40 guests and all of them so excited to see them marry one another on this one-of-a-kind date. I could tell that Ryan and Lindsey were two very special people that had a lot of people who loved them.
