Eighty-one years ago today a man was born who would change the face of music… Elvis Presley.
With his smooth voice and gyrating hips Elvis made many a girl swoon and many a boy envious as he rose to fame in the 1950s. Just go back and look at any video (this one is fun) of Elvis’ performances and you will understand why. Las Vegas had the pleasure of seeing a lot of Elvis during his lifetime and although Elvis passed away in 1977, his spirit still lives on in Las Vegas.
In the early days Elvis performed in Vegas as an opening act but very quickly he became known to have the most exciting, often record-breaking, live performances in rock and roll history. No city in the U.S.A saw more live performances during Elvis’ lifetime than Las Vegas, Nevada.
Elvis made his home in Las Vegas at what was once The International Hotel (now the Westgate Las Vegas). His first show at the International was in 1969 and he went on to sell-out 837 consecutive shows in front of 2.5 million people. He lived and performed at the International for 7 years. This is when the Las Vegas love affair began and it continues today.
This year Las Vegas is expecting over 100,000 weddings to take place. At Chapel of the Flowers we have the pleasure of creating the dream Las Vegas wedding “Elvis style” all year long. Whether it is a traditional wedding or a rock themed extravaganza, Elvis makes a wedding unforgettable. Say “I do” while Elvis officiates your wedding ceremony at Chapel of the Flowers, then be serenaded by Elvis… and few of your closest friends.
