Over the years, more and more couples are deciding to get married on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. This growing wedding trend doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon, due to the fact that majority of people have the extended weekends off from work, and love to travel on these holiday weekends. So how can you create the perfect Memorial Day wedding?
Give Plenty of Notice
Everyone loves a holiday weekend! Which means if you are planning to get your loved ones to come out to your wedding for Memorial Day, give them plenty of notice so they don’t plan something else.
Travel Details
With plenty of notice, your guest will have more time to book their rooms and look out for flight deals. Hotel rates typically will rise during a holiday weekend but airlines will start promoting deals 90 to 60 days prior to travel dates. Insider tip: Sign up for alerts on travel websites to get alerts on deals.
It’s a holiday weekend and your guests decided to spend their extended time off to come to your wedding. Make sure you have suggested activities or small social events planned out for the weekend (especially if you have a lot of guests coming from out of town).
Consider a Monday Wedding
You have the entire weekend (and Monday) to celebrate, so why not plan for a Monday wedding? Most venues will charge an additional fee for Saturday/Sunday weddings (especially on a holiday weekends). Since you are planning a Memorial Day Weekend wedding, you can get away with hosting a Monday wedding. This will not only save a couple bucks, but you can lead-up to the main event with a welcome brunch and/or rehearsal BBQ with everyone that came out to attend your wedding.
Majority of people know someone or have family members in the military. Salute our soldiers by doing something during your wedding (it is on Memorial Day weekend after all). You can go big by having a red, white and blue themed wedding or do something more subtle like handing out small flag wedding favors that guest can wave while exiting the chapel.
Holiday weekends are a great time to travel, spend time with family and friends, and have a wedding!
