Leap Day only occurs once every four years, making February 29 a highly desirable date to “tie the knot.” To celebrate this unofficial holiday, Chapel of the Flowers created the Take the Leap Day Wedding Contest. Which gave one lucky couple the chance to take the ultimate “leap of faith” by skydiving after their Vegas ceremony.
Leap Year
Why do we have Leap Day every 4 years? Well, it is to account for the fact that each year actually has 365.25 days! In 45 B.C., Julius Caesar came up with the idea of Leap Day to occur every 4 years, in order to make up for this discrepancy.
Over thousands of years, many couples have adopted this holiday as a romantic date to propose marriage or “tie the knot.” At Chapel of the Flowers, this Leap Day was our busiest day since 7-7-07. Our contest winners, Crystal and Isbet, where one of these ceremonies on February 29, 2020.
About the Couple
Crystal Espinoza and Isbet Garcia from Colorado Spring, CO, met nearly four years ago through mutual friends. Isbet popped the question to Crystal by leaving the engagement ring on top of some furniture they were building together. Of course, Crystal said “YES!”
“We wanted to get married in Vegas anyway, and the jump [skydive] made it even more exciting!”
And now – Leap Day will forever be a significant date for these thrill seekers – their wedding day!
Leap Day Wedding
Hundreds took the leap and entered the Take the Leap Day Wedding contest, knowing that only one lucky couple would win the coveted prize including a ceremony in our Glass Gardens chapel, tandem skydive for two, and much more.
Crystal and Isbet pulled up to the Glass Gardens chapel in style in their stretch limousine. They knew that in just a few moments, they would be married! As their guests gathered in the chapel, the lovebirds were whisked away to spend a few minutes with the chapel’s minister to customize their ceremony.
As Crystal walked down the aisle to “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brett Young, Isbet wore a huge smile on her face. They laughed and cried throughout their beautiful ceremony. After making their vows to one another, surrounded by their closest friends, family, and loved ones, they were finally pronounced “Mrs. & Mrs.”!
Leap of Faith
Following their ceremony, Crystal and Isbet were taken to GoJump Las Vegas, and took the ultimate leap of faith from a PAC 750 airplane. They declared their love to one another by free-falling 13,000 ft. at 120mph! View the video above to see more about their experience!
